Jinnat Ayub : KEPZ (Korean Export Processing Zone) sets a unique example of what an industrial zone should be.

A familiar sight in any industrial area is littering the grounds or streets. But that familiar scene cannot be seen anywhere in KEPZ.

Inside the KEPZ, there are various flower arrangements.

As soon as you enter through the main gate, you can see that this area is decorated with different flowers. Colourful flowers are shining in front of the red brick buildings in the green KEPZ area.

Among these flowers are: marigolds, zinnias, dahlias, roses, chrysanthemums and sunflowers.

A woman worker of KEPZ said, ‘We are proud to work in such an organization. We have not found such a charming atmosphere in any institution before. There is no garbage inside KEPZ. We like it very much.”

By keeping the mountains protected, the green and nature mix has not only increased industrialization but also the beauty has multiplied here.

More than half of the land in this industrial zone is reserved for growing trees and forests. This place is full of 87 species of mammals and 137 species of birds.

KEPZ Agriculture Officer Ashraf Hasan Chowdhury said, ‘More than half of KEPZ spread over 2500 acres of land with 25 km road network is covered by forests and reservoirs. KEPZ has set a unique example of how an industrial zone should be.

KEPZ Deputy General Manager (DGM) Mushfiqur Rahman said, ‘KEPZ has always been working towards greening and social responsibility. Ki-Hak Sung, the founder of KEPZ, dislikes cleanliness and pollution very much. The impression of his attitude has emerged everywhere in the factories and compounds of KEPZ.

He said, ‘Garbage lying on the square or the road is a familiar sight in any industrial area. But that familiar scene cannot be seen anywhere in KEPZ. The floors of the washing and cleaning units here are dry and crumbly.’

‘Ki-Hak Sung Sir has developed KEPZ for living and working in a healthy environment,” added Mushfiqur Rahman.
