
ISLAMIC UNIVERSITY : The authorities of Islamic University in Kushtia have temporarily expelled five students, including Bangladesh Chhatra League leader Sanjida Chowdhury, in connection with the torture of Phulpori Khatun, a first-year student of the university.
The decision was taken at the University Disciplinary Committee meeting on Saturday afternoon with Vice-Chancellor Sheikh Abdus Salam in the chair.
Islamic University Proctor Shahadat Hossain made the disclosure to the media after the meeting.
The meeting decided to issue show cause notices to the accused five students, he said, adding that the notice must be responded to within the next seven working days.
“If the answer is not satisfactory, they will be expelled permanently from the university,” he added.
The expelled students are Sanjida Chowdhury alias Antara of Statistics Department (Session: 2017-18), Halima Akhter Urmi of Fine Arts Department (Session 2020-21), Israt Jahan Mim of Law Department (Session: 2020-21), Tabassum Islam of Finance and Banking Department ( Session: 2020-21) and Muawiya Jahan of the same session of the same department.
Among them, Sanjida Chowdhury was the Vice-President of the university unit Chhatra League while others are Chhatra League workers.
Central Chhatra League has expelled all five members from the organization following the incident of torture.
