Chittagong: Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has said that her government is procuring modern and up-to-date combat weapons for each force to build a professional and strong-armed force.

He said We are procuring modern and timely weapons for every force. We are working to make the armed forces professional and robust as per the plan of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina addressed the Chief Guest at the ‘Presidential Parade-2022’ organized on the commissioning of the 83rd BMA Long Term Course at the Bangladesh Military Academy (BMA) Parade Ground in Bhatiari, Chittagong, this morning.

The Prime Minister said to strengthen the country’s defence system, and we have established 17 infantry divisions in Sylhet, ten infantry divisions in Ramu and seven infantry divisions in Barisal. In the last four years, three brigades and 58 small and large units have been established under different formations. Sheikh Russell cantonment has recently been established in Mawa-Jazirate, and new cantonments are underway in Mithamin, Rajbari and Trishal. Construction of Army Aviation Forward Bases at Chittagong and Cox’s Bazar and Aviation School at Lalmonirhat is also in progress.

He said we had added a new composite brigade and para commando brigade to the army. Sophisticated and up-to-date weapons are being procured for each force.

The Prime Minister said today is a very happy and important day for you. After a long training, he will take charge as a proud officer of the Bangladesh Army by getting the desired commission.

He said, by taking this oath today, you are entrusted with the sacred responsibility of protecting the great freedom and sovereignty of the motherland. I think you will fulfil that responsibility properly. The Father of the nation said, “I command you as the father of the nation, stay on the right path, love the motherland.” Stand up for justice, obey the elders, keep discipline, then you can be a man in life.”

The Prime Minister said this is the reality. I hope our young cadets will remember this and be motivated by patriotism to serve the country.

Referring to the foreign policy left by the Father of the nation, he said, we want peace, not war. The Father of the nation has said friendship with all, enmity with none, and we are moving our country forward on the path of development by following it properly.
