Oil, gas found in Sylhet

Sylhet : The state minister for electricity, energy, and natural resources, Nasrul Hamid, declared on Sunday that fresh oil and gas deposits had been found in Sylhet.

He revealed the details in a Sunday midday briefing with reporters at his ministry.

The government started drilling in Sylhet-10 (Jaintapur and Gowainghat) two months ago. Four levels of the gas were found there. The big news is that oil has been found in the first layer.

He says there’s gas in all four strata of the well. “There is likely 43.1 billion cubic feet of gas,” he said.

The state minister said that the oil reserves would be revealed following the test, but it will require another four to five months.
