The door of the land minister’s house is open to all

Jinnat Ayub, Anwara (Chittagong): Land Minister Saifuzzaman Chowdhury Jabed is not separated from the people even for a moment, apart from taking care of the activities of the Ministry of Lands and participating in essential state meetings and seminars.

Apart from performing government duties, he also keeps the door of his house on Sarson Road in Chittagong opens till late at night, three days a week. Every Thursday evening to Saturday, many men and women are served in this house, giving solutions to various problems.

Again, while conducting party and development activities, he regularly met with people from remote areas in tea chats. In this way, Saifuzzaman Chowdhury Javed, a three-time member of parliament, has established himself as the leader of the people of the Anwara constituency.

Many people, including reporters, witnessed on Saturday (December 3) evening that the Minister of Lands is an exceptional public servant. It can be seen at home there is quite a crowd of ordinary people. Everyone is treated with tea and biscuits.

Land Minister Saifuzzaman Chowdhury Jabed is sitting on one side of the drawing room of the house. One by one, they go to the Minister and tell him about the problem. The land minister listened attentively to everyone with a smiling face—immediate solution.

An older man named Ishaq (90) was seen reminiscing about the Minister’s childhood. The older man sat on the tea table in front of the Minister. Chatri Union Parishad Chairman Aftab Uddin Chowdhury Sohel, who was present there, told Ekushey Patrika, “Uncle Ishaq used to take the Minister to school and take care of him when he was a child. The Minister still keeps track of him.

Anwara businessman Muktar Zaman told Ekushey newspaper, “Every Thursday evening to Saturday, the Minister listens to the happiness and sorrows of the ordinary people of the area and gives solutions at his residence in Chittagong city. Anyone can go to his house. He also supported the poor financially.

Chairman of Bairag Union Parishad, Nawab Ali, told the Ekushey Patrika, “There is a strict order from the land minister to the chairman of each union of Anwara and Karnaphuli Upazila that any news of the suffering of the common people of the area should not go to his ears. So that ordinary people’s problems are solved quickly. Let us inform the Minister about the issue if that doesn’t solve it.’

When asked, Land Minister Saifuzzaman Chowdhury Javed told the Ekushey Patrika, The Prime Minister has trusted me.” I am thankful to him for that. I always try not to break his trust. Today I have this honour and achievement because the people of the area have elected me as a member of parliament with a significant vote. Bangabandhukanya rewarded me from State Minister of Lands to full Minister. I am working tirelessly to maintain this consistency. I want prayers from the countrymen.

Incidentally, Saifuzzaman Chowdhury completed his primary and secondary education in Bangladesh and obtained a higher degree in business administration from a reputed university in the United States. He became active in politics mainly through his father. His father late Akhtaruzzaman Chowdhury was also elected Member of Parliament from Anwara Constituency; He was the president of the Chittagong South District Awami League and a praesidium member of Awami League. After his father’s death, Saifuzzaman Chowdhury was elected as a Member of Parliament in the by-election. After that, he was elected again in the 10th and 11th National Parliament elections.

Saifuzzaman Chowdhury’s late father, Akhtaruzzaman Chowdhury, is the founder of United Commercial Bank (UCBL). Saifuzzaman Chowdhury is currently on the Executive Committee of UCBL and Chairman of Aramit Group. Besides, he was elected president of the Chittagong Chamber of Commerce and Industry three times. Under his dynamic leadership, Chittagong Chamber started the construction of Bangladesh’s first World Trade Center.

Saifuzzaman Chowdhury was a member of Bangladesh Better Business Forum, National Council for Industrial Development, Chittagong Port Maritime Council and National Management Committee of Batexpo 2007. He is a Syndicate Member of Southern University, Chittagong and Vice Chairman of the Chittagong Skills Development Center (CSDC). Saifuzzaman Chowdhury is married and has two daughters and one son.

Saifuzzaman Chowdhury served as the State Minister for Lands from January 12, 2014, to January 7, 2019. After that, he took responsibility as the full Minister of land ministry by swearing in Bangabhaban. Saifuzzaman Chowdhury is being praised for taking various steps to stop land service digitalization and corruption.
