MK Monir : A 14-member Japanese delegation visited the KR Ship Recycling Yard in Sitakunda, Chittagong, which will be the fourth Green Ship Yard in the country. After the inspection, they expressed satisfaction with the shipyard’s environment, workers’ safety, waste storage system and other issues. At the same time, they enthusiastically praised the overall management of the yard.
Today Monday (May 22), from 11:30 am to 1:00 pm, the Japanese delegation visited the yard on the beach of Kumira, Sitakunda. The Japanese delegation was led by the Vice President of Japan Ship Owners Association Keiji Tomoda. Other members of the delegation are; NYK Line General Manager and Japanese Ship Recycling Committee member Takuya Koizumi, NS United Kaiyun Kaisa and Japanese Recycling Committee alternate member Hiroki Tanaka, Class NK Manager Takeshi Naresi, MLIT Director Dr. Masanori Yusida, NYK Line Manager Jigami Nabuyuki, JSA Deputy Manager Yamagami Hiroyuki, KA Deputy General Manager Kudu Yasushi, NK Class TLD Taniguchi Ryuya, In Corporation JNS Atsuki Sumiyuki, MOL’s Takahashi Nobuyuki and Akiyama Nayuki.
A 14-member Japanese delegation arrived at the KR Ship Recycling Yard at 11 am. Meanwhile, Taslim Uddin, the leader of KR Ship Recycling Yard and Director of KR Group, greeted the delegation with flowers and a warm welcome. Later, everyone met for a discussion in the seminar room of the institution. The company’s leader, Taslim Uddin and Consultant Marine Engineer Mahbub Alam exchanged views with the Japanese delegation in the discussion meeting. Later the delegation toured the entire shipyard. They especially witnessed the work of cutting scrap ships. At this time, the delegation members went up the stairs to the ship’s top. They later visited the yard’s emergency medical unit, waste storage, asbestos storage, safe water plant, workers’ bath, wash, and dining room.
At the end of the visit, they enthusiastically praised the management of KR Ship Recycling Yard. Expressing satisfaction, the Vice President of the Japan Ship Owners Association, Keiji Tomoda, told Ekushey Patrika that the environment of KR Ship Recycling Yard is excellent. We visited every unit of the yard. Security matters, in particular, are powerful and planned. Everything you need for a green yard is here. So we are happy with it.
Takeshi Nareshi, manager of Class NK, told Ekushe newspaper that KR Ship Recycling Yard would be the fourth green shipyard in Bangladesh. A total of four shipyards have been our clients. KR is one of them. Very soon, they are going to get the certificate. Overall condition is satisfactory.
After the visit, the Japanese delegation had lunch at Bhatiari Golf and Country Club. Later they left for Chittagong’s Shahjalal International Airport. They will leave Bangladesh tonight for Japan.
Incidentally, this delegation visited three green shipyards (PHP, SN Corporation, Kabir Shipbreaking Yard) and several non-green yards in Bangladesh for the last four days. At the same time, they met in several meetings with the leaders of the Bangladesh Ship Breakers and Recyclers Association.
